Inside devCodeCamp: Dan's Story

I am currently a student in my 6th week at DevCodeCamp so here's a quick student review! These past couple weeks have been some of the most challenging weeks I've ever experienced; this is coming from someone who has been deployed to Iraq while serving his country in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. These challenges continue to mold me into who I am today.

Before enrolling, I had no experience with any kind of coding or programming, just a little dabbling here and there while surfing the internet. I've taken many college courses since high school but don't have a degree nor have I taken any classes related to computers. When I found out about DevCodeCamp, my friends and I became interested. We immediately began planning for the class that would start in a few months. After one of the Wednesday tours, we were completely onboard. Instead of waiting a few months until spring, we decided to put in our 2 weeks-notice to our former jobs and take steps towards a new and exciting career!

The instructors explicitly state the class would be one of the hardest things we've ever done; they were right. Just like the bootcamp in the Navy, when a day at DevCodeCamp is over, I am completely drained. Yet at the same time, I want to learn more and know I am gaining the knowledge I need for my future and career, especially when many of us have spent time with Dave well past the end of class to review concepts that we don't quite understand. I have the utmost confidence in my instructors that I will come out of this class fully prepared to be a developer in the field, fully prepared to use my newly acquired skills and fully prepared to be successful.

What is keeping you from your next step to a solid career in coding?
